Khattar Launches Huda City Centre Flyover, Underpass

Inaugurating the underpass and flyover at the Huda City Centre junction on Friday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that three road projects in Gurgaon are likely to be completed and ready for commuters by July this year.

These include the Atul Kataria Chowk, Mahavir Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk projects. “Three major projects are in the pipeline. By June 2022, the Rs 80 crore Umang Bhardwaj Chowk project will be completed. The Rs 47 crore Atul Kataria Chowk project will also be ready by June 30. Similarly, the Rs 25.5 crore Mahavir Chowk underpass project will be ready by July 31,” said Khattar.

The revamp at Atul Kataria Chowk includes the construction of an underpass between Sheetla Mata Mandir and Maharana Pratap Chowk and a flyover between the Gurgaon bus stand and Kapashera.

The revamp at Mahavir Chowk involves the construction of an underpass between Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road and the bus-stand road, along with elevated walkways and service roads.

The Public Works Department (PWD) is executing both projects on behalf of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

The revamp of the 3.6-km-long stretch from Umang Bhardwaj Chowk to Dwarka Expressway by the GMDA is a part of a larger project to link Hero Honda Chowk and Dwarka Expressway. The remaining 2-km-long stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk is also under development by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Speaking at the inauguration event, the chief minister compared Gurgaon to a “bridge” connecting the state with the rest of the world. “Gurgaon ‘Nagar’ is a very important ‘Nagar’ for us. I don’t see it as a city, but keeping in mind how it has become a place that is famous worldwide, I believe it is doing the work of serving as a bridge connecting Haryana to the rest of the world,” said Khattar.

“According to the census, the predicted population of Gurgaon by 2031 is 42 lakh. We have to undertake all creations keeping in mind this population and also the goal of making Gurgaon a modern city. A concept of ‘Smart City’ was launched, but we aim to make Gurgaon the ‘smartest’ city,” he said.

The Chief Minister inaugurated a 269.5-metre-long flyover and a 750-metre-long underpass at the Huda City Centre junction. Apart from these structures, the Rs 52.52 crore project to revamp the busy intersection includes a foot-over bridge, surface roads, pedestrian footpaths, auto and taxi stands and bus queue shelters.

According to the GMDA, they took notice of various aspects, including pedestrian safety, seamless traffic flow, street lighting and rainwater drainage, while planning the project.
